Der heutige Turm ist 51 Meter hoch und jeden Sonntag geöffnet. Die Tickets für den Fahrstuhl auf die Aussichtsplattform auf 45 Metern Höhe gibt es im Gaußturm-Kiosk am Fuß des Turms. Der Blick vom Leinetal bis zum Weserbergland ist grandios. Bei guten Sichtbedingungen sind Göttingen, der Solling, der Harz, der Hohe Meißner, der Kaufunger Wald und das Habichtswälder Bergland zu sehen.
Es bietet sich auch ein Spaziergang auf dem Geologie- und Bergbaupfad in unmittelbarer Nähe an. Die Rundwanderung um das ehemalige Basalt-Abbaugebiet ist bequem in einer Stunde zu schaffen. Der Kiosk am Fuß des Gaußturms bietet eine kleine Auswahl an Kalt- und Warmgetränken, handgemachtes Eis, sowie andere süße und herzhafte Kleinigkeiten an.
