The votive chapel stands prominently on the hill of Wahlhausen (560 m above sea level). From the hill, one enjoys a magnificent panoramic view over the volcanic cones to the east and south - all the way to the Nürburgring.
Clearly visible, the votive chapel stands on the hill of Wahlhausen (560 m above sea level). Built on an oval plan, it was constructed in simple forms in 1946/47 to fulfill a vow made by the people of Steffeln during the time of World War II in honor of the Mother of God, Mary. Inside the chapel, the relief of the Madonna of the Mantle made of light tuff stone, crafted by Alfons Biermann in the Maria Laach workshop, dominates.
From the hilltop, one enjoys a wonderful panoramic view over the volcanic summits to the east and south - all the way to the Nürburgring. The place name Wahlhausen recalls a village site that likely fell into desolation in the 12th/13th century, located around 600 meters north of the chapel.
