Der Bildsteinfelsen liegt bei Dachsberg-Urberg unterhalb des Goldenhofes.
Der Bildsteinfelsen bietet eine weite Aussicht über das Tal der Alb bis zu den Alpen. Bereits im frühen Mittelalter soll dort eine Burg der Ritter von Tiefenstein gestanden haben. In der Nähe befindet sich die Bildsteinhöhle, um die sich zahlreiche Sagen ranken.
Unterhalb des Felsens liegt der heute verschlossene Eingang des ehemaligen Fluss- und Schwerspatbergwerks „Grube Gottesehre“, das Ende der 1980er-Jahre aus wirtschaftlichen Gründen geschlossen wurde und nun Fledermäusen als Zuflucht dient. Das Mineralienmuseum „Gottesehre“ in Urberg erinnert an diese Bergbaugeschichte (geöffnet donnerstags und sonntags 14–16 Uhr).
Geologisch gehört der Bildsteinfelsen zum Gneisgebiet der Wiese-Wehra-Formation mit Amphibolitvorkommen. Unterhalb des Aussichtsplateaus befindet sich eine etwa 5 m tiefe, stollenartige Höhle, die vermutlich mit früheren Bergbauaktivitäten zusammenhängt. Ein steiler, nur teils gesicherter Pfad führt zur Höhle hinab.
Der Fernwanderweg Albsteig Schwarzwald führt am Bildsteinfelsen vorbei und lädt zum Rasten und Genießen der Aussicht ein.
