Auf okzitanisch bedeutet Mescla "Mischung", denn die Felsterrassen überragen in 250 m Höhe den Zusammenfluss von Verdon und Artuby, der Mescla genannt wird. Der Verdon windet sich in dieser grandiosen und unberührten Landschaft um einen schmalen Felsvorsprung. Flussaufwärts erkennt man den 400 bis 500 m tiefen, von Nord nach Süd ausgerichteten Canyon. Besonders eindrucksvoll ist der Blick von der oberen Aussichtsterrasse.
