Der Auerberg ist 1055 m hoch und aufgrund seiner exponierte Lage ermöglicht diese grandiose Aussicht. Am Auerberg wird ein keltischer Kult- und Siedlungsplatz vermutet. Eine ganze Reihe von Sagen rankt sich um den Auerberg. Einige handeln von einer im Berg versunkenen Heiden- oder Keltenstadt. Nach den Kelten folgten die Römern. Hier wird vermutet, dass die Standortwahl darin begründet wird, dass die Römer Kontrolle über den kulturellen Mittelpunkt der keltischen Siedler erlangen wollten.
