Der rund 10,5 Hektar große Auepark ist ein Feuchtbiotop mit vielfältiger Tier- und Pflanzenwelt. Eine barrierefreie Steganlage führt zu einer Aussichtsplattform mit Blick auf die von Schilf und Pestwurz geprägte Wasserfläche.
Der Spazierweg entlang der Gande lädt zum Verweilen ein – besonders am Gandeantritt, wo man die Füße ins Wasser halten und die Natur genießen kann.
Der Platz wird auch „Roswithas Rast“ genannt – benannt nach der Dichterin Roswitha von Gandersheim.
