This is Koziakas, the ancient Mount Kerkitio, with its abundant waters and dark fir forests.
One of the most beautiful mountains of Pindos is the ancient Mount Kerkitio. Its current name Koziakas probably comes from the Turkish word "Kotzia" = big and "collar" = neck, ie big neck, consequently a long mountain.
Koziakas and all the mountains of Pertouli present karst geomorphology. Τhey are characterized by complexes of surface and underground forms and by a peculiar circulation of groundwater based on limestone.
From Livadia starts a road to the highest peak rising at 1901 m. above sea level. The name of the peak is Astrapi, which means "Lightning" in Greek. "God threw the lightning and killed the animal thieves" (A. Hatzigakis, Pertouli, Cultural Association of Pertouli, Trikala, 2009). The area of Viga - Boudoura extends from the stream of Agia Kyriaki and reaches above the village of Perliago. "On the Pertouliotika Livadia (meadows of Pertouli), a Bulgarian had built his hut in which he sat every summer with his daughter. The girl's name was Viga. A young shepherd who loved the beautiful Vigga was hit by lightning strike. The girl mad from his doom threw herself under fir trees and got killed. That's how the place got its name" (local oral tradition).
