From the Aletschbord you have a breathtaking view of the Great Aletsch Glacier.

At the View Point on the Aletschbord Belalp, you have the opportunity to see the impressive Aletsch Glacier and feel the uniqueness of this ice giant up close. The huge ice flow stretches over a length of 23 kilometres from the Jungfrau region down to the Massa Gorge.

Climate change is leaving huge traces
Climate change is also affecting the vast sea of ice. Global warming has taken on a worrying intensity at the Great Aletsch Glacier. The ice flow is losing up to 50 metres in length every year.

Facts and figures about the Great Aletsch Glacier
With a length of 23 km and 11 billion tonnes of ice, it is the longest glacier in the Alps. Due to the confluence of the Great Aletschfirn, Jungfraufirn, Ewigschneefeldfirn and Grüneggfirn, it has a total surface area of 86km2.

Did you know?
It takes around 400 years for a snowflake that has fallen from the sky in the Jungfrau or Aletschfirn feeding area to drip from the glacier tongue.

On a guided glacier tour, you can experience the Great Aletsch Glacier in a particularly impressive way and learn interesting facts from trained professionals.

Glacier tours can be booked via the Belalp Alpin Centre.
