It's worth taking a look at the Salzgitter ore processing plant. In the foreground are the tracks leading toward the smelter (incoming) and toward the "Hütte Süd" marshalling yard.
Following various changes to the ore preparation process, only one of the three sintering plants remains. Similarly, of the 16 small ore mixing beds that once existed, only 8 remain. In addition to the small ore mixing beds, there are three large mixing beds. Of the four chimneys that once stood at the ore preparation plant—a prominent landmark visible from all sides, even from a great distance—only one chimney, standing 135 meters tall, remains.
