Suomussalmi Tourist Office, Visit Suomussalmi, maintains the tourist information service of Suomussalmi municipality and serves tourists and residents all year round.
Suomussalmi Tourist Office offers practical advice and tips for an unforgettable holiday, as well as free brochures and maps.
Publications on cities and destinations of national interest and national parks are also available.
The Tourist Office also assists in planning groups' itineraries. Additionally, you can book an accredited guide and Kianta boat trips to Turjanlinna Island of the writer Ilmari "Iki" Kianto.
The office also sells postcards and stamps, jewellery, books about the Suomussalmi region, maps of the Hossa National Park and Hossa paddling guides.
You will find the tourist office in Jalonniemi-house, on the viitostie road (E 63), just outside the centre of Suomussalmi (Ämmänsaari).

In summer the Tourist Office is open daily, Mon - Fri 9 - 18, Sat & Sun 10 - 18
Every year the office is closed on the following days:

- May Day 1.5.
- Ascension Day

Public transport
Suomussalmi can be reached by bus from Kajaani and Kuusamo.
The nearest railway stations are in Kontiomäki and Kajaani, from where there are several daily trains to the south and north. Some incoming trains have a bus connection to Suomussalmi.
The main tourist routes passing through Suomussalmi are the highway 5/E63 and the Via Karelia tourist route. The Tourist Office is located in the Jalonniemi-House, on the shore of Lake Kiantajärvi.
