Kurimo cultural route invites the visitor to explore the culturally significant yard area of Old Kurimo and the murmur of the ancient forest trees of Kurimo nature reserve.
The Kurimo cultural route makes time stand still. The route starts from the historically significant 'Old Kurimo yard area,' whose main building, over 100 years old, was the former Heikkinen’s large farm. The house was sold to the municipality in 1925 and served as a municipal home for over 30 years. The Old Kurimo yard area includes several different buildings as well as a household forest formed into a nature reserve. Today the main building operates as a private restaurant. The easy-to-walk blue path introduces the main building of Old Kurimo and its yard area, where wooden building walls have information boards telling, with photos and texts, about Kurimo’s multifaceted history and present. The longer red path also leads from the yard area to the Kurimo nature reserve, where there are nature information boards along the path. Both paths are designed for use by the whole family.

Roadbook
The blue and red marked paths start from the yard area of Old Kurimo parking area.
The barrier-free, suitable for people with reduced mobility, 0.3 km long Blue Path was built in the yard area, where wooden building walls have information boards telling, with photos and texts, about the multifaceted history and present of Kurimo.
The slightly more demanding Red Path, 1.5 km, starts from the same place and circles around the Kurimo nature reserve (6.5 ha). Along the path in the forest, there are nature information boards.

Kurimo cultural route is located in Suomussalmi, 110 km north of Kajaani and 145 km south of Kuusamo. Kurimo cultural route is about four kilometers north of Suomussalmi town center. First, turn from highway 5 (E63) to Välitie and continue half a kilometer uphill, then turn right to Kurimontie. Signs guide you from highway 5.Parking
