Originally the Town Theater Na hradbách, now the Mahen Theater, is housed in an outstanding Neo-Renaissance building from 1881 - 1882.

At the time of its position, it was the first European theater to be lit by electricity. There are theater, opera and ballet performances.

It is part of the National Theater in Brno, which also includes the Janáček Theater and the Reduta Theater.
