The synagogue stands in the historic centre of Pazardzhik, accessed via a passage off the main street, and forms part of a broader ensemble that includes a smaller synagogue nearby. During the communist period, the building was repurposed as part of the local History Museum, and it has since remained well preserved. Although no longer used for worship, it survives as a rare and important example of Sephardic religious architecture in Bulgaria, reflecting the multicultural heritage of the region. The adjacent Small Synagogue (Midrash), built in 1872 on the site of an earlier structure, is also preserved and has been adapted for modern use.
