Die Weite sowie die Kargheit und Ödnis der Landschaft versprühen ihr ganz eigenes Flair. Durch das artenreiche Moorgebiet führen zahlreiche Spazierwege.

Die Nickelheimer Filzen gehören zu einem Verbund aus Hochmooren mit einer Gesamtfläche von rund 600 Hektar. Sie wurde seit 1989 zum Landschaftsschutzgebiet erklärt und seitdem stetig renaturiert. Die Filzen sind aufgrund ihrer Größe europaweit einzigartig, denn es gibt in Europa keine größere Moor-Renaturierung als hier vor den Toren Rosenheims. 2021 wurde dieses Gebiet in die Riege der "Feuchtgebiete von internationaler Bedeutung" aufgenommen.

Was können Sie hier mit Kindern machen?

Mit Familie oder in der Klasse können Kinder die Nicklheimer Filze anschaulich erkunden. Die Moorstation Nicklheim hat eine umweltpädagogische Zielsetzung mit folgenden Angeboten:

  • Moorexkursionen mit Lernspielen für jeden Wissensstand und alle Altersstufen
  • Grünes Klassenzimmer mit moorkundlich ausgestalteter Inneneinrichtung
  • Aussichtsplattform und zwei Torfaussichtshügel zur Beobachtung von Landschaft und Vögeln
  • attraktives Wanderwegenetz durch das Moor
  • botanischer Garten der Hochmoorflora
  • Schau-Handtorfstich
  • Bockerlbahn
  • ehemalige Hütte der Torfarbeiter ("Mittagshütte")
  • Bohlenweg mit Hängematten und Picknicktischen sowie Infotafeln

Diese Punkte sind über das Schülerprogramm "Moorstation Nicklheim" buchbar. Aber auch ohne Programm können sie das attraktive Wegenetz durch das Moor zu den Aussichtsplattformen nutzen.

Fauna

Seit der Renaturierung entwickelt sich eine einzigartige Vogelwelt mit zum Teil seltener Vogelarten. Oft zu beobachten sind Arten der Entenvögel, wozu Reiher-. Moor- oder auch Schnatterenten gehören. Diese bevorzugen die reichhaltige Ufer- und Unterwasservegetation. Mit viel Glück kann man von den Vogelbeobachtungsstationen aus einen Blick auf den Eisvogel erhaschen, der 2009 zum Vogel des Jahres gewählt wurde.

Flora

Besonders eindrucksvoll ist die spezialisierte Moorflora. Häufig anzutreffen sind hier feuchtigkeitsliebende Gehölze wie die Moorbirke, die Eberesche und der Faulbaum. Zur charakteristischen Vegetation der Filze zählt außerdem das Torfmoos Sphagnum, das große Mengen an Nährstoffen binden kann und somit im Boden das nährstoffarme, saure Milieu schafft und unterhält, das die übrigen an diesem Lebensraum angepassten Pflanzen zum Gedeihen unbedingt benötigen. Des Weiteren findet man dort auch die Heidel- und Preiselbeere und andere Zwergsträucher. Auch zwei immer spärlich auftretende und als geschützt geltende Gewächse, die optisch sehr ansprechende Drachenwurz und den rundblättrigen Sonnentau (einer der bekanntesten Vertreter der "fleischfressenden" Pflanzen Europas) kann man hier in Augenschein nehmen.

Für viele Vogelarten dient das Moor als Lebensraum, darunter auch Schwarz-, Braun-, Blau- und Rotkehlchen. Aufgrund des Vorkommens dieser vier Vogelarten in den Rosenheimer Stammbecken Mooren wird die Gegend auch als "Vierkehlchenland" bezeichnet.

Wanderparkplatz am Sportheim mit der Moorstation. Der "Weltpfad" ist 1,1 Kilometer lang und berichtet anschaulich von der Entstehung der Erde.
