Wer eine Besteigung in zwei Etappen durchführen möchte, übernachtet in einer der Schutzhütten. Die bekannteste darunter ist wohl das Becherhaus. Um von hier aus auf den Gipfel zu gelangen, gilt es nur eine tote Gletscherzunge zu überqueren. Dies erfordert keine Ausrüstung. In weniger als einer Stunde ist der höchste Punkt erreicht. Die Erstbesteigung war da bedeutend aufwändiger: F. Leis und zwei Kumpanen bezwangen im Jahre 1865 als erste den Wilden Freiger.
