Die Erstbesteigung gelang dem Wiener Joseph Anton am 30. September 1861. Er bezwang den Gipfel über den Südgrat und war damit der erste, vor dem sich ein packendes Panorama ausbreitete: der Rundum-Blick reicht von den Berner Alpen im Westen über die Glarner Alpen, die Rätischen Alpen, die Ortler Alpen, die Brenta Dolomiten und über den Großglockner bis zur Schobergruppe im Osten. Einer der umfassendsten Ausblicke der gesamten Alpen.
