Maclear's Beacon wurde zur Triangulation im Jahre 1844 von Thomas Maclear errichtet.

Zur Vermessung der Erdkrümmung wurde 1844 diese Triangulation von Thomas Maclear errichtet. Als Astronom des königlichen Observatoriums trug er maßgeblich zur Weiterentwicklung der Forschung in Südafrika bei.

Heute zieht dieses Monument zahlreiche Besucher des Tafelbergs an und steht als Zeugnis der Geschichte.
