Der Similaun gipfelt auf einer Höhe von 3.606 Metern und zählt damit nicht nur zu den höchsten Bergen der Ötztaler Alpen, er wird auch als achthöchster Berg Österreichs gelistet. Und obwohl er im Norden (Marzellferner), Osten und Süden (Grafferner) von Gletschern bedeckt ist, gilt er aufgrund der technisch unschwierigen Besteigung als geeignetes Ziel für erste Erfahrungen mit Gletschertouren: Natürlich nur in Begleitung eines Bergführers und mit entsprechender Ausrüstung!
