The first plantations of this communal forest date back to the second half of the 19th century. Indeed, this hill, until then bare, was dedicated to pastoralism.
Mont Boron Park is one of the green lungs Nice. Its surface area is 570,000 m². It rises 178 m to the south and 222 north.
In the Middle Ages, the forest was razed to prevent possible invaders from surprising the city's defences. The reforestation was carried out between 1863 and 1866 on land that had only been used as pastureland until then. Their classification by the Domaines and the application of the forestry code allowed the systematic reforestation of pines and eucalyptus. A forest was thus recruited on the territory of the commune of Nice. It was the forestry engineer Prosper Demontzey (1831-1898) who undertook the afforestation of the site with Aleppo pines. There is also a large population of Carob trees and wild olive trees.
A place for walks, tents and picnics, it offers superb panoramas. From the fort of Mont-Alban, you can have a view of Italy and the East, embracing the harbour of Villefranche, the peninsula of Cap-Ferrat, Nice and the mountainous relief of the Alps. Its 11 km of marked trails in the heart of a Mediterranean forest offers very pleasant walks in a rural setting. This park is the most southern resort of the Nice valley, a protected nature reserve.
