Er ist mit 835 m die höchste und zugleich südlichste Erhebung der zum Mittelgebirge Rhön gehörenden Kuppenrhön.
Auf dem Weg zum Gipfel passiert man die Reste eines keltischen Ringwalls und mehrerer Annexwälle. Früher diente der Platz der Milseburg einer ganzen keltischen Siedlung als Wohnplatz.
