At 2,467 meters, the Gamskarkogel is one of the highest grassy peaks in Europe and offers breathtaking views as well as a mountain hut at the summit.
At 2,467 meters, the Gamskarkogel is one of the highest grassy peaks in Europe and a well-known summit destination in Grossarltal. The challenging mountain hike leads through the Tofern area up to the Gamskarkogel Hut, also known as the Bad Gastein Hut. Located right at the summit, it offers a unique place to stop for a break or spend the night.

From the summit, an impressive panoramic view opens up over the Hohe Tauern and the Northern Limestone Alps—from the Wilder Kaiser to the Dachstein. Even in winter, the Gamskarkogel is a popular destination for ski tourers and ranks among the most impressive tours in Grossarltal.

Directions

Drive by car towards Hüttschlag, before the tunnel turn right and drive up the Hinterfeld service road. Alternatively, you can take bus no. 540 to the Hüttschlag town center bus stop and hike from there via a trail to Hinterfeld (+ 1 hour walking time).
