Vállus közelében fakad a Keszthelyi-hegység legnagyobb vízhozamú forrása, amelyet egykor a pálos szerzetesek is használtak.

A Szent Miklósról elnevezett forrás a hegység legbővízűbb és legmagasabban fekvő forrása, amely fakadási helyét annak köszönheti, hogy itt találkozik a felszín közelében a fődolomit a hegység legidősebb felszínen lévő kőzetével, a vízzáró rétegként funkcionáló csicsói márgával.

A forrás egykori vízhozamát jól érzékelteti, hogy a középkorban a közeli kolostorban lakó pálos remeték felduzzasztották vizét, és halastavat alakítottak ki rajta. A vízszint csökkenésének legfontosabb tényezője itt is, mint a környék sok más forrása esetében a nyirádi bauxitbányászat volt. Ennek ellenére még mindig megbízható vízhozam jellemzi a Szent Miklós-forrást, hűs vízére télen-nyáron számíthatunk. A kőből épített, kör alakú építmény két oldalán padokat is találunk, amelyek a forrásfoglalás részei.
