L’Ill nait au coeur du Jura Alsacien, à Winkel, au milieu de l’Illensprung, à 600m d’altitude. Véritable colonne vertébrale de l’Alsace, longue de 217 km, elle se jette dans le Rhin à GAMBSHEIM, au nord de STRASBOURG.Depuis mai 2003, une œuvre d’Anne Rochette sert d’écrin à la rivière naissante. Pour l’artiste, la rondeur des sculptures évoque aussi bien les collines avoisinantes que la féminité, souvent associée aux sources dans l’art populaire. Plus Haut, 10 gros « galets » symbolisent les goutes d’eau qui, comme autant de résurgences, rappellent que la naissance d’une rivière est toujours diffuse.
Le site de la source de l'Ill, accessible en voiture, est propice aux balades et randonnées. Vous pourrez aussi profiter de votre visite pour découvrir l'allée des hêtres de Winkel, l'église Saint Laurent et la Chapelle Warth.
