A forrás jelentőségét jól mutatja, hogy bár Magyarországon a természetjárás elterjedése a 19. század végére tehető, ekkor kezdtek el nagy számban forrásokat foglalni, kilátókat építeni stb., a Jávoros-kút első említése jóval korábbról, 1847-ből való: ekkor a Kékesen mulatozó vadászok ivóvízlelő-helyeként mutatja be egy folyóirat. A kút mellett ekkor vadászház is állt, majd 1888-ban, a Mátra Egylet megalakulásának másodévében a turistaszervezet védkunyhót is emelt.

- A buszmegállóból nyugat felé induljunk el a P és Z jelzéseken! 150 méteren belül egy T-elágazáshoz érkezünk, ahol jobbra kanyarodva ugyanennyit kell sétálnunk az út bal oldalán, hogy elérjük az erdőbe balra térő K▲ és K+ jelzéseket, amelyek a forrásig vezetnek (600 m).
