Die Burgruine Rabeneck, auch bekannt als Burg Weißenstein, kontrollierte das Nagoldtal, welches das natürliche Eingangstor zum Schwarzwald war. Sie wurde um 1240 erbaut und war bis 1295 bewohnt. Nicht weit von der Rabeneck liegt die Burgruine Kräheneck, welche vermutlich als Verteidigungsburg für die Rabeneck diente. Bis 1649 gehörte die Burg unterschiedlichen Lehnsherrschaften bis ein Bürger sie erwarb. Er nutzte die Burg mit amtlicher Genehmigung als Steinbruch bis es 1855 gestoppt wurde. In diesem Jahr erwarb der badische Staat die Reste der Burg.
Später erwarb die Stadt Pforzheim die Ruine, die noch Mauerreste des Palas und der Schildmauer beinhaltete. 1958 bis 1959 wurden diese zu einer Jugendherberge umgebaut und ein verfüllter Gewölbekeller freigelegt. 1996 folgte ein deutlich größerer Neubau sowie einige Sanierungen.
Der Name "Rabeneck" ist nicht urkundlich bezeugt und ist eine volkstümliche Bezeichnung, die sich seit 1835 durchgesetzt hat. Vorher war der Name Burg Weißenstein gebräuchlich.
