Heinrichsturm in Bad AbbachPhoto: Markt Bad Abbach
Noch heute befinden sich Überreste der von Ludwig dem Kelheimer 1220-1229 erbauten Burganlage auf dem Bad Abbacher Schlossberg. Von der ehemals sehr mächtigen Ringmauer sind noch Teilstücke erhalten. In einer archäologischen Grabungsaktion von 1980 wurden die Grundmauern des ehemaligen Pflegerhauses ausgegraben und rekonstruiert.
Weit ins Donautal sichtbar, thront der noch vollständig erhaltende Bergfried auf dem Bergplateau. Er wird im Volksmund Heinrichsturm, im Gedenken an den vermutlich in Bad Abbach geborenen Kaiser Heinrich II., genannt. Der 27 Meter hohe spätromanische Bergfried besitzt ein viereinhalb Meter mächtiges Mauerwerk aus Bruchstein, das außen von Buckelquadern aus Bad Abbacher Grünsandstein und Kalksandstein verkleidet ist. Im Inneren des Turmes befinden sich zwei übereinander gelegene achteckige Kammern mit Helmgewölbe.
Der Turm kann nur von außen besichtigt werden.
