Your recreation area for body, mind, and soul.
The ruins of Gomarn Castle are located near the town of Bad St. Leonhard i.Lav. on a wooded hill. The original structure of the castle probably dates back to the 11th or 12th century - it is mentioned for the first time in 1287 - however, the current wall remnants date back to parts from the 12th to the 15th century.
The four-story main building of the castle, facing northeast, received a strong outer wall in the 15th century that has been preserved to this day. The still well-preserved defensive wall of the town also enclosed the castle. The castle was destroyed by fire in 1762 in its wooden parts, but was rebuilt. In 1808, it burned down again and since then, the burned ruins have not been rebuilt. The town of Bad St. Leonhard i.Lav. (current owner) has reinforced the walls of the castle so that the ruins can be accessed safely by locals and holiday guests. In the castle courtyard, overshadowed by a large chestnut tree, wooden tables and benches are set up, as this is where summer festivities like castle festivals, Schlossberg festivals, and other events organized by the associations of the town of Bad St. Leonhard i.Lav. take place.
On the slope in front of the castle walls lies a well-maintained park with beautiful walking paths, as well as a mini-golf course - from here, the view extends over the town to the heights of the Koralpe.
