Als öffentliche Grünanlage ist die Burgruine Reichenstein bei Neckargemünd frei zugänglich.

Die Burg Reichenstein blickt auf eine lange und geheimnisvolle Geschichte zurück. Sie wurde wahrscheinlich Anfang des 13. jahrhunderts als Reichsburg errichtet. Gemeinsam mit weiteren Reichsburgen im unteren Neckarraum diente sie dem Schutz des Reichsterritoriums gegenüber dem Wittelsbacher Territorium rund um Heidelberg.

Die Burg wird allerdings nur von 1292 bis 1355 urkundlich erwähnt. Sie war ab 1329 im Besitz der Kurfürtsen von der Pfalz und verlor danach vermutlich an Bedeutung gegenüber der nahen Bergfeste Dilsberg. Die Burg verfiel spätestens ab dem 15. Jahrhundert zur Ruine und wurde seither fast völlig abgetragen.

1995 wurde der Arbeitskreis Reichenstein des Kulturvereins Neckargemünd gegründet. Dessen Ziel ist die denkmalpflegerische Betreuung und die Erforschung der Burg.
