From the observation pulpit east of Rennertehausen you can experience the natural character of the Eder up close!
The Eder is one of the most natural river landscapes in Germany and is also one of the cleanest rivers. In sections, with its gravel banks, rapids and alluvial forests, it is reminiscent of unaffected wild rivers that can only be found in a few regions in Germany. It rises in the Rothaargebirge and meanders through the Rhenish Slate Mountains in sometimes sweeping river loops. Rivers and intact floodplains are important habitats in our landscape. They hold back floods and have a regulating effect on the excess nutrients that get into the waters from the agricultural areas.

The rivers have unfortunately lost a lot of space due to straightening, dyke construction and bank construction.

This makes the river landscape in the Eder floodplain all the more unique. Migratory birds find resting places here, ospreys and black  storks feed. In June, the flowering buttercup flowers cover the surface of the water. Preparations for the reintroduction of salmon and otters are in full swing.
