Umgeben von Weinbergen und Streuobstwiesen steht die Birnau in aussichtsreicher Lage über dem Bodensee. Die in den Jahren zwischen 1746 und 1749 durch den Vorarlberger Baumeister Peter Thumb für die Reichsabtei Salem errichtete Kirche ist für eine reiche barocke Ausstattung bekannt - darunter auch der „Honigschlecker“, ein keck dreinschauender Putto, der genüsslich aus einem Bienenkorb futtert.
