Bereits 1817 wurde der links der Donau, gegenüber dem Amalienfelsen gelegene Umlaufberg, die "Eremitage", in die Fürstlichen Anlagen einbezogen und auf seinem höchsten Punkt mit einem Teehaus oder "Fürstenhäusle" ausgestattet. Von der damals weitgehend unbewaldeten Anhöhe bot sich eine prachtvolle Aussicht. Die mit einem Boot vom Südufer erreichbare Eremitage wurde mit ihren Sehenswürdigkeiten, mehreren Grotten, einem Felsentor und malerischen Aussichtspunkten, durch einen Rundweg und mehrere Stichwege erschlossen, die Uferwiese mit Blick auf die jenseits des Flusses schwebende Teufelsbrücke für "Picknicks" unter freiem Himmel genutzt.
