FerienWelt Südschwarzwald
Whether as part of a walk, for a wedding or for a relaxed lunch break: the castle park - the green oasis of peace - with its lovingly planted gardens and "Schönau Castle" invites you to linger in the middle of the old town.
The castle park is considered a green oasis of peace in the city of trumpeters and is home to "Schönau Castle" in the heart of the park. Couples say "I do" in very different places in the park and, like Franz Werner and his Maria Ursula in the "Trumpeter Story", start their life together. The music performances in the concert shell, the magnificent cactus bed, the large playground, the small castle park café with a view over the Rhine, the bird aviary and wedding ceremonies in the orangery are just as much a part of the romantic atmosphere of the park as the massive city wall with its round "thief's tower" (historical building). The "trumpeter of Säckingen" can often be seen and heard in the castle park when he guides guests through the town or plays the famous trumpeter's song "Behüt' Dich Gott" during the Sunday promenade concerts in summer.
In earlier times, Schönau Castle, which sits enthroned in the middle of the park, had four towers, but the northern two were lost and a third central tower was added on the south side.
Inside the castle building there are various museums, including the "Scheffel rooms" with a first edition of the book "Trompeter von Säckingen". Of course, there is a stately statue of the trumpeter in front of the castle and visitors can also make themselves comfortable on the numerous benches in the sun around the trumpeter fountain at the entrance to the castle park. It is just as much a part of the the gardens around it.
Show Time
The park regularly becomes an incomparable event location alongside the townhall "Kursaal" (event location). Garden and arts and crafts fairs can be visited in spring and in summer it opens up for open-air movies,
colorful festivals or rousing blues concerts. From May to September
the popular, free promenade concerts take place every Sunday morning, where regional music societies demonstrate their skills.
When the music starts and the artists take to the city's stages, you know what good entertainment feels like.
