Er ist dem berühmten 1798 geborenen Künstler und Sohn der Stadt Cottbus gewidmet. Blechen zählte zu den bedeutendsten Malern des deutschen Realismus. In seiner nur knapp fünfzehn Jahre umfassenden künstlerischen Tätigkeit schuf er ein vielfältiges Werk im Spannungsfeld zwischen Romantik und Realismus. Seine Bilder sind u.a. in der Alten Nationalgalerie in Berlin und in der ständigen Ausstellung "Carl Blechen - Genie der Farbe - Maler des Lichts" im Schloss Branitz in Cottbus zu sehen.
