Observatorium Kanzelhöhe
The observatory of the Karl-Franzens-University Graz is 1463 meters above sea level. Solar activity and its impact on space weather is researched here. Other important tasks are environmental physics and solar radiation measurements, which are also important for the use of renewable energies.
Take the Gerlitzen Kanzelbahn (cable car) from Annenheim or the car from Treffen am Ossiacher See via the Gerlitzen toll road uphill to the Kanzelhöhe (middle station). After about 10 minutes walk you reach the observatory.
Paid guided tours take place on Wednesdays and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. when the sun is shining. Groups of 5 or more should register by calling +43 316 380 5777.
The showroom of the Kanzelhöhe Observatory, with an interactive PC, historical instruments, posters on the sun, the observatory and environmental physics, is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with free admission!
