The Oberhammer is located at the exit to the Karlstal Gorge. The Oberhammer is part of the former production sites in the Moosalbtal, which also include the Mittelhammer, Unterhammer, iron smelting plant, and the rolling mill.

This was the first operating facility along the course of the Moosalbe. The Oberhammer was established as an original hammer forge between 1724 and 1728 by the barons von Hacke.
