In den Wäldern von Wüstenrot und dem benachbarten Löwenstein wachsen über hundert Jahre alte Wellingtonien. Mammutbäume deren Samen König Wilhelm 1865 in Amerika erworben hatte, um die Bäume in der Wilhelma in Bad Cannstatt anzupflanzen. Da man zu viele Sämlinge (4000) hatte, verkaufte man sie an Gemeinden und Privatleute. So kommt es, dass sich heute in Parks und Gärten über 135 Jahre alte Exemplare des Giganten finden.
