Wo einst die Bagger im Bitterfelder Tagebau dröhnten, ergießt sich heute der mächtige Goitzsche-See. Als Teil des Bitterfelder Wasserfront Konzepts am Nordufer der Goitzsche findet sich heute das Wasserzentrum Bitterfeld, das stillgelegte Wasserwerk der Bergbau- und Chemiestadt.
Bis 1992 versorgte das Werk die Industrieregion mit dem kostbaren Nass. Heute ist das Industriemuseum Wissensquell der besonderen Art. Historische und aufwendige sanierte Aufbereitungsanlagen der Jahre 1910 bis 1983 erläutern die Geschichte der Wasserbehandlung von gestern bis heute.
Wasserbecken mit Besatz, Wasserspiele und moderne Experimentierplätze für Jung und Alt machen das "Wasserwerk zum Anfassen" zu einem lebendigen Meuseumserlebnis. Für Kinder und Jugendliche ist die Mitmachausstellung "H2O & Co" besonders empfehlenswert.
