The 18th-century Fruchtkasten is located in Welschensteinach 18. Yes
To save the granary of the Schwendseppenhof in Welschensteinach from decay, it was restored from the ground up in 2001 using the old techniques. The masonry consists of quarry stones, which were filled with clay. The cellar ceiling was clad with clay wrapping and the roof thatched with straw. The result is a real gem.
The 18th-century fruit box is quite well preserved. It was added later, but the granary itself is much older.
You can see and marvel at everything that used to be part of rural life in Welschensteinach: long-forgotten agricultural implements and tools, household items and work clothes, as well as local costumes. Religious pictures and objects and items from school and club life are also on display.
There are no fixed opening hours, so if you are interested, simply make an appointment with Hannelore Maier, tel. 07832/2392 or Josef Merkel, tel. 07832/1094. Groups are also welcome to take a guided tour of the museum store.
