At its peak, Vindobona’s population exceeded 30,000, a mix of Roman soldiers, locals, and immigrants from across the empire. The museum highlights both military and civilian life: soldiers worked in crafts and administration, enjoyed baths, taverns, and recreational facilities, and were supported by nearby canabae, the civilian settlements that supplied food and goods. Exhibits include sculptures, mosaics, inscriptions, tools, and pottery, complemented by digital reconstructions of baths, taverns, and theatres. The site provides a layered look at Vienna’s Roman-Celtic culture and the 350 years of Roman presence in the area.
