The town museum is located in the historic inn "Zum Engel", which is considered one of the most beautiful Renaissance buildings in the Palatinate. Until the 18th century, it served the Dukes of Zweibrücken as their Oberamtssitz. Reinhard Fleckstein bought the property in 1802 and established the inn "Zum Engel".

The museum has set itself the task of conveying the history of the city and the region and making it accessible to a broad public. Particular emphasis is placed on the historical development of the town and its relationship with its French neighbors. The rooms on the 2nd floor are filled with a permanent exhibition on the life and works of the writer Martha Saalfeld (1898-1976) and her husband, the graphic artist Werner vom Scheidt (1894-1984).
