The museum displays over 60 helicopters and aircraft over four exhibition halls. Large exhibits share the halls with more than 1000 other exhibits, which provide an insight into the history of aviation. A free audio guide for adults and children also explains interesting background information about the museum itself and the individual exhibits.
For those who want to get particularly close to the dream of flying, you can try out the flight simulators in a suitable cockpit. You can take off in a Messerschmitt Bf 109 cockpit built after the original model and in the Bell UH-1D helicopter!
Since October 2018, the Transall C-160, known as the Silberne Gams (Silver Chamois) because of its special paint colour, has been enthroned on the roof of the Aviation Museum in Wernigerode, visible from afar. The aircraft can also be viewed from the interior. A further highlight is a tube slide, with which visitors can quickly reach the terrace of the museum's cafeteria.
