The birthplace of Matija Čopa has an interesting building history. It even contains building elements dating back to the 16th century. The former cellar, which today houses an archaeological exhibition - the Ajdna Museum Room, is entered through a Gothic portal with cut corners "on a buckwheat grain". This was the only brick part of the building, apart from the tower, when it was built, as the living and utility parts of the building were made of wood. In the 17th century, a granary with two Gothic windows was added. In the 18th and 19th centuries, an extension was added to the courtyard side. In the 19th century, a shed, a wooden house and a chamber were added. The building and the outbuildings then took on the rectangular plan of today.
The left room on the ground floor of the Čopas House houses the Čopas Memorial Collection. Čop's age, life, creativity, library work and contacts with Prešeren are presented with manuscript, book and other material on panels. In 2016, the Institute for Tourism and Culture Žirovnica, in cooperation with the Gorenjski Museum and the Municipality of Žirovnica, set up a permanent archaeological exhibition in Čopo's birthplace, the Ajdna Museum Room.
There is No More Beautiful Place is the title of a new fiction-documentary film showing the Žirovnica Cultural Heritage Trail, which visitors can watch in Čopo's Birth House. The film takes viewers to all four birthplaces of famous Žirovnica compatriots, to Janša's beehive, to the mysterious Ajdna and to the green valley of the Završnice River.
Čop's Birth House is one of the attractions on the Žirovnica Cultural Heritage Trail, one of the oldest and most beautiful thematic trails in Slovenia.
Čop's Birth House serves as an event space and is the headquarters of the Žirovnica Institute for Tourism and Culture.
