In the surrounding area Alsenborn is known as the "home of tightrope walkers".
The small exhibition shows the history of artists in the village, which has its origins in the crises of the 19th century. As musicians, puppeteers and acrobats, Alsenborn citizens roamed the countryside in the summer and lived off the money they earned in the winter.
Alsenborn is known in the surrounding area as the "home of tightrope walkers", jokingly the inhabitants are still called "Bajasse". The history of the artists in the village has its origins in the crises of the 19th century. Escapes from impoverishment and hunger, alternatives to emigration were in demand. Initiated by the Schramm family, a special kind of itinerant trade developed here. As musicians, puppeteers and acrobats, some Alsenborn people moved around in the summer and lived from the money they earned in the winter. The group of artists expanded quickly and lasted in the typical form of itinerant family businesses until the Second World War. After that, the Alsenborns were mainly known in the vaudeville world. The "golden age" between 1870 and the First World War saw many well-known artistic families such as Bügler, Traber, Althoff or Rosenberg in Alsenborn, which gave the local history its special color.
The exhibition is divided by epochs and leads from the present back to the past. Only a few props, objects of everyday use and other objects survived the wandering life. Therefore, the exhibition focuses on pictures of the Alsenborn artists.
