Der Vermuntpass war das Hinderniss für die damaligen Hirten.

Um die Alpweiden des Grossvermunts im Norden des Silvretta-Hauptkamms zu erreichen, musste man von Guarda aus 1650 m das Vieh durch die Val Tuoi auf 2798 m über diesen Pass treiben. Dass es gefährlich war, stand ausser Frage, stürzten doch immer wieder sowohl Vieh als auch Menschen in Gletscherspalten. Auch die Wanderungen in dieser Region sind Tradition. Schon im 7. Jahrtausend vor Christus haben in der Val Tuoi, Jäger bei einem Felsblock Rast gemacht und Feuer entfacht.
