Der Futschölpass war berühmt berüchtigt als der Pass über den die Toten von Galtür über das Jamtal nach Ardez transportiert wurden, um dort dann ihre letzte Ruhe zu finden.

Diese «Tradition» war vor allem dem Umstand geschuldet, dass Galtür sich im wirtschaftlichen Kontext nicht von Ardez trennen konnte. Trotz Trennung blieb Galtür kirchlich zunächst zugehörig zu Ardez. Erst 1359 erhielt das Dorf eine Kirche mit Friedhof. Bis dahin mussten die Toten eben nach «Hause» zur letzten Ruhe gebracht werden. Im Winter, so sagt man, wurden die Toten auch schon mal zwischengelagert, da der Pass nicht begehbar war.
