Das Fort wurde Mitte des 19. Jahrhundert gegen von Süden einbrechende Gegner von den österreichischen Truppen errichtet. Kurz darauf folgte aber bereits eine Erkenntnis, dass das Fort Kluže mit dem darüber liegendem Fort Hermann bei Bovec ausreichend Schütz bieten. Die Talsperre Predil wurde in weiterer Folge als Depot und Mannschaftsunterkunft für die Truppen genutzt. Die Straße führt auch heute noch direkt durch die Befestigungsanlage.
Beeindruckend ist auch das Monument zu Ehren des Hauptmann Hermann von Hermannsdorf mit dem gusseisernen Löwen
(ebenfalls direkt an der Straße), welches Kaiser Ferdinand I errichten ließ.
