Schillingskreuz Gedenkstein

Das Schillingskreuz wurde 1904 nach der Abbildung eines alten Kreuzes aufgestellt "zum Gedächtnis eines im Jahr 1341 auf der Bärenjagd im Schillingsloch beim Hohen-Wittlingen verunglückten und hier auf dem Heimtransport nach Neuffen gestorbenen Herrn von Schilling".

In der Umgebung des Schillingskreuzes lagert ein Rest von Mittleren Weißjuramergeln (wɣ), die zu grauem tonigem Boden verwittern. Dieser ist hier -wie häufig im Wald- mit einer schwarzen Humusschicht bedeckt.

Der Boden ist mineralreich, neigt aber bei Bloßlegung zur Verdichtung. Die Ebene südwestlich des Kreuzes war bis zum Beginn dieses Jahrhunderts landwirtschaftlich genutzt.
