When leaving Nidrum, you can find the village cemetery to your left. Thirty Russian prisoners of war also lay buried here. Each gravestone reads the same Russian text: Unknown Soviet civilian – Prisoner of War – War of 1941-1945. The prisoners were deployed from 1942 by the German occupier for forestry and logging. They arrived here with 52 men and were already severely underfed and weak. They only had Sundays off. But the heavy work in extremely difficult circumstances proved fatal.
