Marienklause

The building, which is set into the steep slope of the Isar riverbank and is made of nail flea rock and spruce and birch wood, is located on the eastern riverbank at the southern end of the Hellabrunn Zoo. The Marienklause can be reached on the footpath and cycle path running parallel to the Isar from the Thalkirchner Brücke in the north or from the Großhesseloher Brücke in the south. A steep serpentine path leads from the eastern high bank of the Isar down to the chapel. Coming from the rafting area on the western bank, you can reach it via Marienklausensteg. At the level of the Marienklause, an architecturally interesting pedestrian bridge, the Marienklausensteg, leads across the Isar to the dam of the Isar works canal. At the Marienklause, just below the bridge, a weir with a raft slide, first built in 1330, dams the water of the Isar.
