Die Königslinde mit Gedenktafel wurde zur Erinnerung an König Ludwig II. errichtet und steht am ehemaligen Rimstinger Bahnhof, dieser Halt war extra für den König .
Der Rimstinger Bahnhof wurde 1881 eröffnet und diente für normale Personenzüge und gleichzeitig als Umsteigort für König Ludwig II. in Richtung Herrenchiemsee. Von Rimsting aus ist es nur ein kurzer Weg bis nach Urfahrn, der Ablegestelle für die Ruderbootsüberfahrt auf die Herreninsel im Chiemsee. Nach seinem plötzlichen Tod wurde der Bahnhof geschlossen. Die Königslinde wurde 1995 zum 150. Geburtstag von König Ludwig II. erichtet. - genau an dem Platz, wo sich sein persönlicher Wartesaal zur Weiterreise befand.
Das ehemalige Empfangsgebäude an der Bahnstrecke München- Salzbug steht seit 2006 unter Denkmalschutz.
